New Things on the Farm!

Oh, we have been SO busy here, trying to get ready for our new sheep. It has actually been fun work, and the weather has been cooperating, with spotty rain and chilly temps... but workable! Here are some pictures from our activities on this extended weekend:

Here are the boys helping their dad hold up some fencing, while I make dinner! They can be pretty good helpers, especially when they know food is on the way. Plus, they are just as excited as I am about our new sheep!

On the way down to the barn this dreary morning, I found this little guy. I am always scanning the ground for them, a "skill" taught to me by my dad...

And here are some new babies I got this weekend from a new friend/ neighbor. They are the same age as our other new chickens but alot smaller...

These are called Mille Fleur Chickens. They are a lot smaller than "normal" chickens, and they have feathers on their feet! I actually got them yesterday, and I left them in this cage around the other chickens, so they could kind of get used to each other. This morning I went down and opened the cage so they could get out and be free like the others. But, a few of our older chickens (about 3 years old), are sassy and set in their ways. One of them pecked the little girl so hard, that the big one got a mouthful of her little feathers. I then gave that chicken a good wack, hopefully to teach her some manners... The little roo got into a neck feather ruffling and jumping contest with one of our big roos. When I saw it wasn't ending very quickly, I stepped in before I lost my little guy. I was a little afraid of that happening. So I grabbed up my little girl, and she was shaking but she relaxed in my hands. I put her back in the cage. I finally got the roo picked up after he gave it a good run for his money, and I put him in the cage with his girl. I will have to figure out a different arrangement for these two. I don't want them to get hurt... I am thinking about some nice chicken tractor plans...

Oh, and I have named my 2 new babies Mickey & Minnie. Can you tell I am a Disney fan??? =) I thought the boys would be able to remember them better that way too...

So, how was YOUR weekend? I hope everything was good for you!

We will hopefully be getting them by the end of this month. Hubby has almost all of the fence done now... =)
