Composting...

I tried about a year ago to start composting. At that time, my wonderful hubby tried to make sure he threw stuff into the compost bucket, but wasn't all in it. He just dumped the items out into a field. On a pile, but it quickly was nothing. No pile, no nothin'.

So, I decided the other day to start back up again. I was wondering how many of you save your egg shells, veggie scraps, food scraps (no meat or dairy!) for the compost?

For a few days, I am going to be asking that you take this poll for me that is at the top of the blog. Then on Monday, I will share some info with you, and HOPEFULLY make some new composters out there!

Thanks for participating, in advance! :)

I just took over the workshop for the areas Earth Day Celebration on composting... Plus my grandparents composted the same way you did... just threw it in the garden to help the soil they would tell me.... this is going to be interesting.

I LOVE COMPOSTING!! For years I taught composting workshops as part of my Master Gardener duties. I just love how scraps can be turned into "black gold". I save EVERYTHING (nearly) for the compost pile(s), and have been known to drive around town with the pick-up truck grabbing bags of leaves off the curbs in autumn. Hubby Dean calls me the "Turd Burglar" because I'm always getting manure from somewhere....and did you know that rabbit manure is safe to add to your garden before it's composted...it's mild enough that you can use it like a "timed release" fertilizer; it won't burn plants. Do you have rabbits? Seems like you do or did at some point. Anyway, I could write a book about composting (as if more books need to be written...I think I have them all!) If you have any questions, give me a holler!
