Clothesline Challenge!

Alright ~ time to share how much you have SAVED on either your gas or electric bill by using your clothesline instead of your dryer!

This month there was about a week where it RAINED almost everyday.  So I used my dryer at that time, but MOSTLY have line dried everything!  My last bill, I saved $40 off of our usual bill!  We also got a swimming pool during this time and have been running the pump, but we STILL reduced our bill!

Now, how about YOU!?!?!  How did you do?  Did you save?  Tell us about it!!!

Yes we have saved money by just drying our sheets and bedding on clotheslines. It actually made a notable difference. Now somehow drying towels outside makes me remember as a kid drying with RUFF towels. I will be drying more things outside after I saw our electric bill.

We saved about $50 a month hanging the clothes to dry. And had more fun being outside hanging them.

I've never tracked how much I've saved drying clothes on the line during the summer, but I'm sure it's a nice savings since the dryer isn't running for a long time each time I do the laundry. My favorite part of drying the clothes outside is the smell - there's nothing like sheets that have dried outside. Wish it was warm enough to dry clothes year round.

How do you track your savings, Do you need to do a whole month worth to see a difference?

Impressive results! My line is almost up! My husband has been making wood brackets to attach to the back of our garage because I can't have it out where it is visible due to HOA rules. There's more than one way to skin a cat! I hope to see some equally reduced electric bills!

It costs me about .50 a load and we have an electric dryer. So each time I'm tempted to use the dryer I think of .50 and I hang it on the line!

I line dry whenever the weather permits! It smells so wonderful to sleep on sheets that have blown in the breeze all day!

I truly save the dryer for a rainy day and dress clothes. If it isn't a pretty day out, then I won't wash towels. If i can't put my sheets on the line, I will just wait to wash them. I also use drying racks in the wash room. I have two wooden ones and a chrome one! My Granny, Granma, Mom, Sister and Aunts all used a clothes-line. I hope my daughters do the same. I don't know for sure how much we save monthly, but I'm sure it's worth it. SO much worth it. There's nothing like fresh sheets on the bed.

Last month I did as little laundry as possible (we were moving). The main floor air-conditioner didn't work in the house we were renting (totally painful to cook with sweat dripping down your back) - we only used the air-conditioner upstairs and turned it low at night. Our electric bill was $100. I'm thinking about just quitting laundry all together! LOL

What a fun challenge ~ over here in Australia almost everyone uses their clothes lines all the time, so we notice the opposite if it's been rainy & see an increase in the electricity bills.
Beautiful picture ~ you've done well!

I miss my clothes line. It was taken down early in the summer. Hubby promised me a sturdier one but we got busy building the green house and playing with my birthday Jersey cow.
Last summer I couldn't keep up with the clothes line. I couldn't wash the clothes fast enough!! When the sun is beating down at 95+ degrees, even the large towels and jeans were dry within an hour or two! It sure did make the laundry go quick, to the point that there was almost no time to start an inside chore/project. hehe It was an OLD wash/dry set, so I know we saved plenty of money not running the dryer for hours on end. We have upgraded to a new model, much more energy effcient, so I don't feel as bad about not using the line.
I'm looking forward to the spring when my new line will go up!!

I found your blog through another one I found and spent some time reading about you guys! I am now following, I'm the horse face!
I am a stay at home mom with 4 kiddos myself and we live on a small farm in Maine. I too love to hang my clothes on the line, although I have no idea how much money we save, I just do it.
We have gardens too, that are all harvested now, but it was great!
Can't wait to read about what you've been up to the rest of the summer.

Enough that when we move, we'll scrap the dryer, and just use out outdoor and indoor clotheslines :O Scary! I'd do it here - but no room for an indoor one :S

Our drier has been fried pretty much the whole summer! Which is fine... I mean I'm just holding on to the pure hope that no one drives in while our underwear is on the line...

Cute blog!(:
