The End of Soccer Season

Well, Sunday was end of our boy's soccer season. I love our soccer program because they don't keep score (I love when they let little kids JUST HAVE FUN!), because they play against kids from their own school, and because they let EVERYONE play the same amount!

I think it is SO important to not force kids to be competitive. Baseball was that way for our oldest son this year. He liked it but he never got to play because he just wanted to go and have fun. But they ended up making him dread his games, scared that when he FINALLY got to bat, the he was going to mess up. Talk about an unhappy mama!

But this soccer program is different, and I know, some people like to push their kids a little more, and give them a competitive edge... And that's OK. But I love when a kid can be a kid and have some fun. They have YEARS before they need pressures of performing "the best".

Now I have to tell you about Caden... This was his first sport, and his very first "twophy"... HE was SO proud... You can see how happy he was to display this around his little neck:

FIRST SOCCER GAME!!!

Today was Deklyn & Austin's first soccer game! Considering they have only had like 3 practices and never played before that, they did really well. Deklyn loves to run and likes to play. Austin is pretty competitive... It was fun to watch.

Nana and Paw (aka- Carolyn & Lowell, or hubby's parents) came to the game.

I loved soccer also, because, unlike baseball (this summer), each child got equal (and I mean EQUAL) playing time... AND it was only an hour long. THAT was great. It was a no stress, fun to watch game.

We won! Well, they didn't keep score, but the kids did! And yes, my awesome husband is helping coach the team, though he has not played, watched, nor read about soccer, in all of his life...

Sport of the Fall- Soccer

I see many parents who are super overwhelmed, because their children are in several different sports and everyone is a different age so, they are each on different teams.... My solution so I am not run ragged by trying to be super-mom in the sports arena? I told the boys they need to try sports they are interested in, do them all this year and maybe next year, then after that they need to decide which sports they want to pursue. Choosing one or two. Is it fair? I don't know, but it may help them excel in sports that they love and are good at.





So the sport THIS fall? We are doing soccer. We received a flyer the other day to do football, but we were already doing soccer. Maybe they will want to try it another year. Beside, as a mom, I think soccer seems less... um, contact sport-ish.





Deklyn, I think will excel at soccer. The boy LOVES to run. It's in his blood. He has to run or, well, he just wouldn't be Deklyn! He wasn't sure he wanted to do soccer ( he had never played it before), but I wanted him to try it. So far he enjoys it.

Austin on the other hand, I wasn't so sure of. He's not what you call a "runner". He has definitely got better over the years, but he is a kid who has short stints of energy. He does well, at golf & baseball. So far he enjoys it also, because at practice, it is short stints of energy! So we will see how he likes a game.

Maybe the next sport will be basketball? We will see. Until then, watch for more pics and wait to see how games do for my boys!

Koen, is a thinker... he's trying to think if he wants to play soccer or not... we'll see!
