I don't know about where you are, but where I live, the price of bananas has come down, and we are buying them on a weekly basis. I buy them on Tuesday, and by Friday they are browning. Sound familiar? I have had friends tell me (thanks Carrie) to separate all of the bananas from the bunch, and this will keep them from getting brown so soon. I have also had people tell me the "green bags" work really well. Most weeks I forget to separate the bananas from each other, and I still haven't wanted to spend $10 on Green Bags (I know, I know... it would save me money in the end....).
So, what to do with the abundance of bananas... There are lots of things, actually. Freeze them (cut up, in baggies. Use later in smoothies.). Dehydrate them (this would be before they get brown, and if you have a dehydrator). And my solution, Make banana bread!
Banana Bread NEVER stays long at my house. We eat it right out of the oven with lots of butter, and we don't stop until it is gone...
Never tried it? It's easy. Here is our recipe:
Banana Bread
Cream together:
1 C. Sugar
1/2 C. softened (not melted) butter
Add:
3 ripe bananas, mashed
2 eggs
Sift together:
2 C. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
Pour into sprayed loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. (makes 1 Loaf)
See? Easy! Enjoy...
